# Settings

Assist has its own Settings: the saved Sessions, the Memory browser and the conversation Tree; the Permissions and Preferences configured during onboarding; and the integrated, built-in user guide. Open it from **Settings** in the **Status** header at the top of the Assist panel.

You can also open Permissions and Preferences from **Extensions → Assist** (**Options** on older IDA versions), without opening the chat panel or connecting an agent.

## What's in the menu

* **Sessions** (`/sessions`): the saved sessions browser. Search, resume, export, or delete past conversations, and review their database edits and script calls with **View write activity**.
* **Memory** (`/memory`): browse, search, add, edit, import, or export stored findings, and review pending ones, described in [Memory](/add-ons/assist/concepts/memory.md).
* **Tree** (`/tree`): the conversation tree, where you can inspect branches, return to an earlier message, and continue from there. Available with the built-in Assist agent loop only.
* **Permissions** (`/permissions`): what Assist and connected agents may do, on two tabs: **Assist** (tool capabilities) and **MCP clients**. Described in [Permissions & Privacy](/add-ons/assist/concepts/permissions-and-privacy.md).
* **Preferences…**: the settings dialog, with the **Agent** (backend and model), **Behavior**, **Appearance**, **Sharing & network**, **Advanced**, **Extensions**, and **Updates** pages, plus **Developer** when Developer mode is on. Several pages have their own slash command, such as `/agent`, `/privacy`, `/sharing`, and `/update`.
* **Guide** (`/guide`): opens the built-in Assist user guide.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.hex-rays.com/add-ons/assist/concepts/settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
