# Rename Any Address

This command gives name/renames/deletes [name](https://docs.hex-rays.com/9.0/user-guide/disassembler/navigation/how-to-enter-an-identifier) for the specified address. This is a more powerful variant of [Rename](https://docs.hex-rays.com/9.0/user-guide/user-interface/menu-bar/edit/give-name-to-the-location) command.

To delete a name, simply give an empty name.

If the specified address is referenced, you cannot delete its name. Even if you try it, IDA will generate a [dummy](https://docs.hex-rays.com/9.0/user-guide/user-interface/options#names-representation) name.

This command is available only from the [name window](https://docs.hex-rays.com/9.0/user-guide/user-interface/view/open-subviews#names-window).
